Trafalgar's climate action plan

We developed our 4-point Climate Action Plan in 2021 to outline how we will take climate action and reduce our emissions. It commits us to Measure, Reduce, Restore and Evolve by prioritising the decarbonisation of our business and trips and supporting innovative projects that focus on nature-based carbon solutions and promote biodiversity.

Our climate action plan targets

We know that to take action on climate change, you need a clear direction, which is why we're the first global tour operator with near-term, long-term, and net zero targets validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). Through these climate action goals, we're playing our part in the global mission to keep warming below 1.5° C by mid-century.

Near-term targets (2030)

  • Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 46.2% by 2030 from a 2019 base year
  • Reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, business travel, and use of sold products 27.5% within the same timeframe

Long-term targets (2050)

  • Reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2019 base year

Net zero target

  • Reach net zero GHG emissions across the value chain by 2050 from a 2019 baseline year

Innovations to meet our climate action plan

In 2022 we launched our Carbon Fund to cement our commitment to decarbonise. It finances initiatives that reduce our carbon emissions, contribute to our net zero journey, and help restore the planet. Specifically, Trafalgar will contribute to:

  • Generating and utilising renewable energy across all our offices and facilities
  • Securing zero-emission vehicles for our tours
  • Reducing the carbon footprint of our tours in collaboration with the supply chain and destinations

We will measure and report on the progress made by the Carbon Fund in our Impact Reports.

The TreadRight Foundation Projects

To further support our climate action goals, our TreadRight Foundation invests in nature-based solutions that address climate change as well as the rapid loss of global biodiversity.

One of their latest initiatives is with Trees For Life, dedicated to re-wilding the Scottish Highlands and restoring Scotland’s globally important Caledonian Forest and its unique wildlife.
